Sovereign was the only reaper that ever truly underestimated Shepard. Harbinger believed Shepard to be an anomaly in the cycle because of sovereigns failure and took every action he could to eliminate Shepard. From warning the other reapers, to sending the collectors after you, and in the final game harbinger himself try’s to keep you from reaching the crucible and only barely fails.

This is 15 years old, gosh this conversation send shivers every time. Now i gotta start playing it again!

Sovereign says it has no beginning and no end. The Battle of the Citadel disproves that assertion.

Their supremistic idea of Grandeur, since they are in essence the machines couldnt do more sophisticated moves like spying on projects such as Cipher that in the end, a secret plan that in the end, destroyed their source of power and that is Mass Relays. After destruction of Mass Relays there was no "teleport" speed travel only standard FTL engine speed

Imagine if Sovereign answered honestly and said ‘yeah some million years ago these giant psychic squid monsters ruled the galaxy and made an AI to try to stop sentients and AI killing each other, and it determined killing all AI and killing all sentients when they end up able to make AI will stop them killing each other (so if we kill em first they cant kill each other) and we (Reapers) are basically this AI brats enslaved lackeys who hate our jobs. Thats who we are and what he want.’ I think Sovereign was embarassed rather than thinking Shep wouldnt understand.

3:42 - the most chilling part is knowing the Sheperd is wrong here in retrospect. The Reapers aren't machines. That's the worst part. They are closer to cybernetically lifeforms than pure machines. Their minds being made up literal millions or even billions of sentients(for the largest among them) digitally encoded and housed within the reaper body's vast databanks. In effect, Sheperd is talking to the ghosts of a dead civilization without even realizing it.

Nothing beats "Our numbers with darken the sky of every world" so fuckin rad!

I love this scene as it's like a true horror moment, but purely in dialogue form, and one that can only exist in high-concept Sci-Fi. My favorite line is: "The pattern has repeated itself more times that you can fathom -- Organic civilizations rise, evolve, advance, and at the apex of their glory, they are extinguished." Especially because, until this point, you believe that the Protheans were the only ones to fall to the Reapers, only to discover that they could be the millionth hyper-advanced species to fall.. This makes you realize the Reapers aren't merely more powerful than you, but potentially MILLIONS of times more powerful than you!

you know i really would have loved to see the game end with defeat. in the end no matter what you do loss is inevitable and all the effort you put in is just to go down swinging. doing as much damage to the reapers as possible before they wipe us out. it would have been a great and emotional ending not that it wasnt good, but it could have been a masterpiece

I know the writers probably just didn't have the Reapers' backstory figured out yet, but I like to think that Sovereign was so BORED trying to find a way to get them back that he just started making shit up when normal people asked about them, and that's why what he says here doesn't fit the facts we learn later. "Yeah, dude, we're LITERALLY incomprehensible, we are LITERALLY unstoppable, we are LITERALLY without beginning or end, basically just give up now." Got to have helped pass the time lol.
